Websites are living systems. Updates, plugins, and hosting environments all work together, and sometimes questions come up as you’re making changes or maintaining your site.

Below are some of the most common questions we receive from clients with DRM-built WordPress websites. If anything here feels unclear or outside your comfort zone, our team is always here to help.

While updates are important, it matters how they are handled.

Plugin and WordPress updates help keep your site secure, stable, and compatible with modern browsers. That said, updates can occasionally impact styling or functionality, especially on custom or content-rich websites.

Because of this risk, we recommend running updates in a staging environment first. A staging site is a private copy of your website where updates can be tested without affecting your live site or visitors.

As part of our Monthly Maintenance Plan, DRM manages this process for you. We:

  • Create a staging copy of your site
  • Run updates manually
  • Check design, layout, and functionality
  • Push approved updates live once everything is verified

This is a hands-on process and typically runs $500 per month due
to the time and care involved.

If updates feel stressful or high-risk, this is exactly the type of work we’re here to take off your plate.

This is one of the most common questions we hear. And it’s usually not an error.

Your site uses caching to load faster for visitors and perform better for SEO. Sometimes, cached versions of pages need to be cleared before new changes appear.

To clear the cache using Hummingbird:

  1. Log into your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Click Hummingbird.
  3. Select Clear Cache in the top right corner.
  4. Leave the default boxes checked and click Clear Now.

Once cleared, your changes should appear as soon as you refresh the page. If you’ve done this and still don’t see updates, reach out to us and we’ll take a look.

If your site uses a DRM theme, header and footer updates are designed to be simple and flexible.

  1. Go to Appearance → Widgets in your WordPress dashboard.
  2. You’ll see widget areas such as Header 1, Footer 1, and additional sections.
  3. Each widget area corresponds to a section on your site.
  4. Click into the appropriate area and edit text or images as needed.

If you’re ever unsure which section is controled by a particular widget area, we’re happy to point you in the right direction.

Navigation menus are managed using WordPress’s built-in editor.

  1. Go to Appearance → Menus.
  2. Select the appropriate menu.
  3. Use the Add Menu Items panel to add pages or links.
  4. Drag items into your preferred order. (Indented items become dropdown menu items.)
  5. When finished, click Save Menu.

If your menu structure is complex or you’re unsure about hierarchy, let us know before making large changes.

If a plugin isn’t behaving as expected, it’s best not to troubleshoot aggressively on your own.

Plugin issues are often caused by:

  • Updates
  • Conflicts with other plugins
  • Caching
  • Hosting environment changes

DNS (Domain Name System) directs visitors to your website by connecting your domain name to the correct server.

The most important DNS record is the A Record, which points your domain to your site’s IP address. Other records manage email delivery and redirects.

Yes. If your site is hosted with DRM, daily automated backups are already in place. These allow us to restore your site from a previous day, week, or month if needed.

If you’re planning to make a significant change, we can run a manual backup beforehand for peace of mind.
